Famous Haystack Monument Vandalized: More Anti-Christian Hate at Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The famous Haystack Monument, a pilgrimage point for students of Christian evangelism, has been crudely vandalized twice within the last two weeks by proponents of anti-Christian hate on the grounds of Williams College. According to a recent report in the Williams Record, 

Perpetrators drew graffiti on the Haystack Monument Friday night, marking the second time in two weeks that the monument has been defaced. 

President Maud S. Mandel sent a campus-wide email yesterday (May 21, 2023) notifying the College community of the incident. The monument, which commemorates five Williams students’ 1806 formation of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, was spray-painted with allusions to Christianity in red graffiti that resembled the May 13 defacement. The perpetrators have not been identified. 

“This time the slogans were ‘Hell is hot,’ ‘Shame on you,’ and ‘Ouch’ as well as an obscenity,” Mandel wrote. A Campus Safety Services (CSS) officer discovered the graffiti while canvassing the area during a standard check, Director of CSS Eric Sullivan wrote in an email to the Record. According to Mandel, CSS has increased its patrol of the area and is working with the Williamstown Police Department to follow leads. 

“Given that the Monument memorializes the Christian missionary movement, some people of faith may be experiencing these incidents as attacks on your religion and on you personally,” she wrote. “You belong here, and I will work for your and everyone’s right to a safe community.”

Maud's email emphasized her intent to get to the bottom of the matter saying that the people responsible would be held to account. She encouraged anyone who might have relevant information to contact Campus Safety Services (CSS) at (413) 597-4444. Tellingly, she added that callers may remain anonymous if they wish. 

She also highlighted resources that were available to support the Christian students who are, at least, the indirect targets of this hateful attack. In particular, she encouraged them to contact the Chaplains’ Office or the Davis Center for support. It will be interesting to see how each office proposes to protect evangelical Christians from the abuse generated by the anti-colonial, anti-evangelical ideologies these offices have maintained for decades. 

Thankfully, Jennifer Kabbany at The College Fix has called national attention to this most recent example of anti-Christian hate on the campus.

An article in a blog site called The Everyday Chirp indicated that "A petition has been circulating encouraging the college to respond to the vandalism with a public statement emphasizing that religious intolerance is not welcome on campus."

Maud recommended students hurting from an attack on one of the most prominent symbols of Christianity on campus seek support from the teams in the Dean of the College’s office and Integrative Wellbeing Services. A quick review of each website showed there was ample information provided about COVID-19, but no mention of the hateful attack on the Haystack Monument. Unfortunately, the plight of Christians at Williams College is illustrated by the comments of student activists including a transgender advocate who approved disparaging Christians here and another who sought to impress upon us her Trans Anger on the heels of the murderous behavior of a trans activist who killed six Christians in Nashville, TN on March 27, 2023.

This week's attack on the Haystack Monument was a reminder of a similar attack that occurred earlier. Again, as the Williams Record reported on May 15, 2023: 

Campus Safety Services (CSS) officers responded to reports that unknown perpetrators defaced the Haystack Monument with spray-painted graffiti, President Maud S. Mandel wrote in a campus-wide email on Monday that alerted the College community to the defacement. CSS received reports from a student through its dispatch center and anonymous tip line on Saturday, shortly after midnight, Director of CSS Eric Sullivan wrote in an email to the Record.

“The graffiti included an obscenity along with the words and phrases ‘Pagan Rule,’ ‘Blood,’ ‘Ouch,’ and ‘Hail Satan,’” Mandel wrote. Custodial staff responded at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday by power-washing the graffiti, though they were unable to remove the bulk of the damage, Sullivan wrote to the Record. According to Mandel, Facilities is arranging for the remainder of the writing to be cleaned.

According to a call log obtained by the Record, CSS alerted the Williamstown Police Department to the graffiti in a phone call Tuesday, and the defacement was filed as a “bias-motivated incident.” The motivation and perpetrators are not yet known, Sullivan wrote to the Record.

The Haystack Monument commemorates the location of the 1806 gathering of five Williams students that led to the formation of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM), during which the students sheltered under a haystack during a thunderstorm. Mission Park is also named for their meeting. ABCFM was a major Christian missionary organization throughout the 19th century and the largest in the United States, sending missionaries to China, India, Hawai’i, and several North American Indigenous nations. “The Haystack Monument has been a focal point for ongoing campus discussions about Williams’ institutional history,” Mandel wrote. “We expect those discussions to continue in the next academic year.”

The incident marks the second time in recent years that the Haystack Monument has been defaced: in 2018, mud was smeared onto the sides of the monument, and three concentric half-circles were carved into the ground between the monument and the benches that surround it. The perpetrators were never identified.

Personally, I remember standing beside the Haystack Monument and being surprised by its emotional power. It is amazing to think of all the good that was done by the young men who, on that spot, made a resolution to bring the benefits of Christianity to individuals living far beyond the boundaries of their own country. The monument is a reminder of the great things that can happen when a small group of people commit themselves to a great project.

Is it OK to Disparage Christians? Of Course! Williams College Student Alice-Henry Carnell Sets Us Straight

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - It looks like a new generation of Williams College students is teaching their peers that bashing whites or males or Christians is socially acceptable. This trend is particularly horrifying when we take into account the violence practiced against Christians around the globe. 

"In raw numbers, Christians are the most persecuted religious group on Earth and have been for years," writes Jeff Jacoby. Evidence is all too abundant — from the steady disappearance of Christian communities in the Middle East to the monstrous repression of Christians in North Korea, from the barbaric penalties imposed on Christians in Pakistan to the public lynching of Christians in India, from the bombing of Catholic churches in the Philippines to the jihadist pogroms against Coptic worshipers in Egypt. Anti-Christian bigotry is a leading cause of bloodshed in our time. It should be getting more attention than it does." 

"According to Open Doors, a California-based non-governmental organization that assists endangered Christian communities worldwide," he writes, "one Christian is killed, on average, every two hours in Nigeria. In 2021, the confirmed death toll was 4,650, making Nigeria the world's deadliest nation for Christians for the second consecutive year."

Nevertheless, at least one leftwing student leader is eager to disparage Christianity in a manner that she believes would be offensive if similar language targets other religions. 

The latest purveyor of this vile, potentially lethal perspective is Alice Carnell '22.5. She is a member of the Williams Chapter of Youth Democratic Socialists of America. In an opinion piece in the Williams Record, she wrote: "Like expressing frustration at white people or at men, expressing frustration at Christianity is expressing frustration at systems that have perpetrated massive harm to those not in their subgroups and at the privileges that people in these dominant groups gain from their membership."

So, abusing other people (expressing frustration) is perfectly okay, perhaps even a socially good thing, provided you carefully pick your targets. 

Carnell has a bit of power at Williams College. As I understand it, she is employed as a teaching assistant in the English Department. I am assuming she uses this platform to teach other young people the proper targets for their ire. Here is how she tells the story. 

"Last Thursday, a group of white men passed out miniature bibles outside of Paresky and on Spring Street. Like several people on social media posted, I thought it was the College giving out journals or planners so I took one. When I saw it was a Bible, I immediately felt uncomfortable. I am very outwardly queer and trans, blur the binary, and tend to be perceived somewhere between “dyke” and “fag.” While there are many Christians who support queer people and many queer Christians, in general, people who pass out bibles on street corners do not tend to like people like me. I looked into the organization stamped on the Bible, Gideons International, and felt fairly certain that these particular men were in that subgroup. They are an evangelical society of Christian men only (their wives are — and I quote — “auxiliary”).

"Many people on campus – including me – expressed discomfort online at this new campus presence. In response to these comments, someone posted on Unmasked, “Not a practicing Christian, but uncomfortable with the way people disparage Christians on this campus,” which launched a 62-comment-long thread. There were a lot of comments that boiled down to: “If you said X thing you said about Christianity about Islam or Judaism it would be Islamophobic or antisemitic. So why is it different for Christianity?”

She asserts that "It is different." 

Wow. This must come as a shock to the families of the Christians in Nigeria being slaughtered at a rate of two an hour. 

In this regard, Alice Carnell is now in competition for the Mary Baker Eddy Hypocrite of the Year award. Alice insists that Judaism and Islam should be protected from bashing while carving out permission to bash Christianity. 

Fun Fact: Ms. Eddy was addicted to morphine and availed herself of medical attention even as she told her adherents to rely on faith-healing instead.

"Criticizing Christianity is different than criticizing other religions," Alice reports. Why? Carnell says that hatred of Islam or Judaism is based on racism while hatred of Christianity is not. For this reason, "...it is impossible to assert that critiquing Christianity (or even bashing it) is comparable to Islamophobia or antisemitism." 

"I posted a version of this op-ed on Unmasked," she wrote, "but in a time of intense anonymity on this campus, it felt important to stake my name to what I wrote." As far as I can tell, Unmasked is an app that has a mental health focus. It is intended to normalize vulnerability and fight the stigma surrounding mental health. It was originally started in January 2020 by folks from Dartmouth College. 

It looks to me that the real reason for her William Record opinion piece was her palpable fear that way too many of her fellow students are uncomfortable with the way "people disparage Christians on this campus." To them, for very good reasons, bashing Christians looks exactly like Islamophobia or antisemitism. 

To put all of this in context, Alice Carnell '22.5 is part of a long line of social justice activists including her grandmother Sue Carnell who served on the board of the Friends Journal, a national Quaker publication in Philadelphia. As far as I can tell, her father is J. Kevin Carnell who was also the trustee and past chairman of the Friends School of Baltimore. Her mother appears to be Tea (Teresa) Carnell who works as an Assistant Attorney General at the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), Maryland Venture Fund. As far as we can tell, she took off a semester and called herself an on-pause junior on her website. 

According to Alice, she has had to process her religious inheritance. As she points out: "I come from a Quaker-Jewish family and those beliefs shape me deeply. Those beliefs don’t exist in a vacuum. An important part of being Jewish for me is criticizing the State of Israel and the settler-colonial violence it perpetuates. An important part of being a Quaker for me is grappling with the violent Christian histories Quakerism exists in."

After battling Christianity, Alice is at war with her own breasts too. In a recent blog post, she shared that she is saving money for her top surgery. In MA, top surgery - that is the removal of one's breasts, will set you back about $3,000 to $10,000. As one might expect, it is cheaper to surgically remove breasts than to surgically add them on, or add them back on I suppose if you made a mistake.  

On one website, I discovered that the cost of breast amputation or if you prefer FTM (female to male) top surgery is "dependent upon your contouring goals as well as your current physical condition." If you are not an already bosomy gal, then you might be able to keep your nipples as they perform the artfully labeled "subcutaneous mastectomy." But, have no fear, if your breasts are quite large, you can still supplement your subcutaneous mastectomy with "free nipple grafting." This delightful add-on service comes, of course, with a higher price tag. 

Hopefully, someone will expose Alice to the potentially unpleasant side effects of subcutaneous mastectomies including numbness, the lack of data on the long-term effects of hormone replacement therapy, the reality of botched operations, and of course hideous scarring. A true friend will also bring up the issue of detransition and transition regret. As far as I can tell, the rate of transition regret stretches from 1% to 8%. But, given the leftist rage for trans* status, I suspect the number is much higher than that. Getting this decision wrong may be as one lady put it, "the worst decision of my life." 

If she reads up on the details of bottom surgery, then she might rethink the whole matter. Apparently, one of the bothers of phalloplasty is that you are going to need an operation every 10 years or so to replace the erectile device. This is a device that creates a pseudo-erection. Sometimes, unfortunately, the erectile device can puncture the flesh it is meant to erectile. Yuk. For perhaps good reason, those who undergo these ugly surgeries according to one research effort are 19 times more likely to commit suicide. Another paper I found indicates that sex reassignment surgery has no impact on mental health or suicides. As such, the suicide rate for people after this surgery is still way above the average population. Like others, I think encouraging this sort of nonsense is simply aiding and abetting a mental disorder.

Predatory Wasps: Drink Tampering At Williams College?

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - According to the Williams Record, it looks like drink tampering is the newest concern of the administration and students at Williams College. The situation is now so dicy that they have ordered the dorm card passes to be adjusted so that students can only access their own dorms.

The aim of this policy is to reduce the number of large parties on campus. The fear, apparently, is that larger parties are more likely to attract sexual predators who feel okay about drugging undergraduates and raping them. Or, at the very least, believe that they can get away with this behavior. 

According to the article, for some students, asking these outsiders to leave their on-campus party is embarrassing and difficult. By controlling who has access to the dorm, the administration believes it will be taking a step toward protecting folks from drink tampering in the first place. 

The official policies of the school make it clear that no one is allowed to serve alcohol to anyone under 18. Clearly, if Williams College was properly enforcing this policy, there would probably be fewer opportunities for the drink tamperers to practice their dark craft on the campus. See the official policies here. As the school's own documents indicate, 

"In Massachusetts, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase or possess alcohol. It is illegal for anyone to present false evidence of age to purchase any alcoholic beverage. It is illegal to sell or give away alcoholic beverages to a person who is, actually or apparently, under 21 or intoxicated."'

The whole maneuver seemed to have shady origins. As far as Williams Liberty can tell, the administration wanted to show it was tough on stopping drink tampering while also making it perfectly clear that they had not noticed any actual evidence of drink tampering. It is not clear how or when the crusade to stop drink tampering will come to an end. The Record reports: 

After two weeks, the College will decide whether to extend the restrictions depending on the policy’s success at promoting smaller gatherings that conform to the College’s Responsible Party Standards. According to Bossong, the College will consider whether there are ongoing concerns about drink tampering; the number and nature of calls for medical care related to substance use; damage in buildings, including reports of damaged furniture, urine, or vomit; and reports to Housing Coordinators, Junior Advisors, and Area Coordinators about the condition of common rooms.

Paying More, Enjoying It Less: Student Approval Reaches a Depressing Low

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - According to a new poll released by the Williams Record, student opinion about the college's institutions and policies is heading in a negative direction. 

"Compared to the approval ratings survey from the fall 2020 semester," they wrote, "approval of the College dropped 17 percent, from 86 percent to 69 percent, while approval for President Maud S. Mandel decreased by 16 percent, from 72 percent to 56 percent. Eighty-five percent of students approved of the College faculty, a three percent decrease from the previous semester."

The study itself looks credible. There are about 2,000 students at the college. They report that they sent the approval rating survey to 500 randomly selected students. They indicated they got 169 respondents to answer their questions. They are reporting a response rate of 34 percent. Demographically, they report that, of the respondents, 36 percent were first-years, 18 percent were sophomores, 26 percent were juniors, and 20 percent were seniors.

One of the things that made the students unhappy was the heavy-handed approach president Maud Mandel took in cracking down on illegal campus drinking. The campus security staff shut down a large party at the famous Wood House and apparently there is still a lot of anger associated with the issue and with the fairly harsh punishments Maud dealt out to the youthful party-goers. 

Since there is basically no risk at all for young people exposed to COVID-19, I can imagine why they thought the college's policies were stupid and okay to ignore for a night. Nevertheless, the conflict over Wood House opened the door for campus do-gooders to smear the characters of the unfortunate students who had simply suffered enough of this bullshit and decided to take their chances that night. 

Writing about the Wood House debacle, the Williams Record shared the comments of Gigi Gamez ’22 who was worried about having on campus the type of person who would attend a party like that because they would probably be reckless in other ways too. The behavior of the partying students was "disheartening" to her. Disheartening, by the way, is a fancy way of saying that something is causing you to lose determination or confidence. 

I suppose we can take satisfaction ourselves in the fact that students are not happy with the results of their own woke students, faculty, and administrators who have turned the school into a leftist, critical theory-inspired madrasa. In a sane world, students would be less worried about shaming those who do not fear COVID-19 and more worried about the dangers of those cold, slippery, icy little roads.

Hell Froze Over: Dr. Drew Gets a Respectful Call from the Williams Record Editor-In-Chief

LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA - I was surprised to receive a polite, professional phone call from Nicholas Goldrosen, the Editor-in-Chief of the Williams Record evening. He  a clarification in his paper regarding statements published about me last month.

I think I would gotten to this good news more quickly, and would have been nicer to Nicholas too, if I had been certain of his identity. Initially, I hung up on him.

After years of seeing my name in print, usually for something embarrassing, I'm careful about talking to strangers on the phone. I remember I once reacted to a phone message from Dinesh D'Souza - the Indian-born American conservative political commentator, author and filmmaker - by first calling his office at Kings College in New York, NY to make sure it was really him.

When I first got a call from David Garrow asking to interview me for his biography on President Obama, I listened to YouTube videos of Garrow speaking so I might be able to verify his identity from his voice.

My goal in all of this is simply to avoid ending up like Rep. Adam Schiff who was the victim of a prank call from two Russian radio comedians. They convinced Schiff that he was talking to Ukrainian politician Andriy Parubiy and that they could send him compromising pictures of Donald Trump.

After doing a little research, I called Nicholas back. The reason for his call, as far as I can figure it out, is that I wrote a piece for Williams Liberty complaining about how I was unfairly smeared by a Williams Record reporter, Samuel Wolf.

Wolf had written a piece about a truly evil Williams College professor who had engaged in multiple sexual relationships with his female Williams College students now named David Sanford and formerly named David Weisbord. David Weisbord had been an associate professor of philosophy from 1989 to 1991. He arrived on campus after I had already resigned. Sanford was in the news mainly because he and his wife were listed as the hosts of a Biden fundraiser in Bronxville, New York.

Wolf dug up a one-sided attack on my character and intelligence which had been published in a letter to the Williams Record back in April 25, 1989. His aim was to suggest that my views at that time were a reflection of the same, creepy, permissive attitudes which foreshadowed Stanford's exploitative behavior. Ideally, Wolf should have investigated why it took the libertine, out-of-touch leadership of William College so long to prohibit the practice. Prohibitions against professors having sex with their students were not part of the employee handbook at William's College until the spring of 2018.

I can report that Nicholas was gracious enough to hear my side of the story, take down my views, and offered to publish a correction to Wolf's earlier article.

The Williams Record has revised an earlier article which I have complained included an unfair gratuitous smear against me. The revised article deletes the text that included me adds a statement regarding the changes made in the article. I could not be happier.

Boycott of English Department Collapses from Apathy and Disinterest

Looks like the student activists fighting the horrifying racism and violence of the Williams College English department just learned that sometimes your best just isn't good enough.

Given a report from Samuel Wolf '19 in the most recent Press Record podcast, it looks like the call for students to boycott all English classes that “do not engage substantially with race” has become a pathetic fractal failure - that is a failure at every conceivable level of resolution. (In other words, zooming in on any part of the fail reveals just as much fail as the entity of the whole.)

Chair and Professor of English Katie Kent ’88 confirms the failure of the boycott by reporting that pre-registration in the department was not substantially changed from previous years. “Our enrollments show no significant difference when compared to our usual averages over the last few semesters,” she said.

In the podcast, Wolf told Rebecca Tauber '21 that the entire effort only involved about 10 students, all of whom chose to remain anonymous. Reportedly, this was because they feared academic retaliation by the evil, white supremacists who haunt the English department, rather than the large number of amused readers who followed this laughable controversy through social media sites including Breitbart, The College Fix, Ephblog, Legal Insurrection, Powerline, Reason, Why Evolution is True and Williams Liberty among others.

The whole boycott was apparently sparked by a liberal, well-meaning English professor, John Kleiner, who apparently made the mistake of reading a quote including the word "nigger" in class. Unfortunately for the outraged boycott enthusiasts, the vast majority of his students were okay with saying the word "nigger" in class. Wolf indicated that there were 14 in Kleiner's class and of those eight responded to his inquiries. Of them, six were okay with Kleiner's comments. Kleiner himself sent in a letter to the Williams Record which cleared up the matter and made the student protesters look like Maoist idiots.

Of course, the failure of the boycott was a huge disappointment to all of us who sincerely hate identity politics and believe that Williams College has become little more than a leftist Marxist Madrasa kept afloat only by the historic good fortune of its endowment investments.
Watching leftists attack other leftists is wonderful entertainment. I was sorry to see this episode die out so soon.

Three Courageous Williams College Profs Push Back Against Cancel Culture

WILLIAMS COLLEGE, MA - I was pleased to see a letter to the editor in the most recent Williams Record which featured three Williams College professors protesting against extremist students promoting a “cancel culture” in which they have demanded the immediate resignation of Suzanne Case ’78. Case is under attack for her role as the chairperson of the Hawaiʻi Board of Land and Natural Resources and her support for the construction of a Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT).

The professors wisely cited Barack Obama who inexplicably came out against cancel culture last week stating: “This idea of purity, and you’re never compromised, and you’re politically woke, and all that stuff — you should get over that quickly… The world is messy. There are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws.” 

The permanently enraged campus left is worked up over the construction of this telescope because they argue it will be built on a historical sacred site. The trio of responsible college professors point out the silliness of this claim. They assert it was already ruled by the Hawaiʻi Supreme court (Oct. 2018 decision), that there "...is no actual evidence that the site and Access Way area was ever used by Native Hawaiian practitioners." The telescope itself sounds outstanding. 

The Thirty Meter Telescope is a new class of extremely large telescopes that will allow us to see deeper into space and observe cosmic objects with unprecedented sensitivity. With its 30 m prime mirror diameter, TMT will be three times as wide, with nine times more area, than the largest currently existing visible-light telescope in the world. This will provide unparalleled resolution with TMT images more than 12 times sharper than those from the Hubble Space Telescope. When operational, TMT will provide new observational opportunities in essentially every field of astronomy and astrophysics. Observing in wavelengths ranging from the ultraviolet to the mid-infrared, this unique instrument will allow astronomers to address fundamental questions in astronomy ranging from understanding star and planet formation to unraveling the history of galaxies and the development of large-scale structure in the universe.

It is hard for me to figure out if these professors are joking when they suggest that a failure to build this wonderful telescope might exacerbate the state’s reliance on non-sustainable, low-paying, “colonializing” industries such as tourism. Really? At any rate, I'm glad to see there are faculty members at Williams College willing to point out that demanding people get fired because you disagree with them is getting to be a negative, self-destructive habit for too many Williams College students. 

The professors who authored the letter include Luana S. Maroja, an associate professor of biology, who has been at the College since 2010. Steven Miller, a professor of mathematics, who has been at the College since 2008. From my time at Williams College, I still remember the third professor from my face-to-face contact with him. He is Jay M. Pasachoff, the Chair and Field Memorial Professor of Astronomy, has been at the College since 1972. 

The Williams Record was also kind enough to provide space for two other pieces which pushed back against the unreasonable student protesters including a letter from David Y. Ige the Governor of Hawaiʻi and from Suzanne Case ’78 herself. All in all, it was a good weak for the opponents of cancel culture.

Black Lives Can't Be Bothered - Protest Against Williams College Safety and Security Fizzles Out

WILLIAMS COLLEGE, MA - In one of the more humorous stories in this week's Williams Record is a brief article which describes how the previously all consuming effort to restrain and investigate the supposedly racist Williams College Campus Safety and Security (CSS) department has evaporated like steam on a dry sunny day.

Laughably, only five participants showed up at a recent listening event regarding the CSS. According to the Williams Record staff reporter, Lucy Walker, the meeting was stacked with pro-CSS students, most of them had come in order to listen to those with differing opinions. In fact, one of the major takeaways from the pro-CSS student's comments was their "...frustration with what they perceived to be the tendency of debates on campus to be one-sided. The majority of the participants had come hoping to change that culture and provide an opposing perspective."

The pro-CSS students asserted the CSS cared about the student body and was just trying to do its job. “I’ve worked with them for three years now. I think what some students don’t understand is that their only concern is the safety and well-being of the students,” said Nick Landry ’21. “They have people who work there who are retired and come in part-time because they genuinely enjoy doing what they do.”

This was pathetic denouement for a cause which black students on campus had tightly embraced, seeking to establish hatred for the Williams College CSS on par with what outside activists had ginned up through the Black Lives Matter movement.

For example, Isaiah Blake ’21 described the POC community as a “magnet” for CSS, at a Black Student Town Hall event in November 2018.

Blake, as you may recall, was the high-visibility CARE Now student leader who this year became frustrated at a CC meeting because of the rules and regulations which he perceived slowed down the fulfillment of a simple request which he artfully described as: "To have niggers sit in the fucking quad and eat hot dogs."

In a pale imitation of the Black Lives Matter protests, black students complained that they felt "unsafe" around CSS officers. According to an earlier report in the Williams Record, "Some examples of alarming behavior that attendees gave included POC-organized parties, where room capacity was arbitrarily and significantly lowered on more than one occasion, as well as examples of condescending and rude tones some CSS officers have taken with POC."

The listening event was part of a larger effort to solicit student opinions regarding CSS which was conducted by Margolis Healy, a campus security consulting firm, hired to conduct an external review process of the College’s campus safety and security (CSS).

On student, Eli Cytrynbaum ’20, a member of Minority Coalition’s (MinCo) steering board, explained away the failure of anti-CSS students to gin up much support this year for their cause as due to the fact that "...people are very tired from last year and have issues from their home communities to deal with,” he said.

Butthurt: Feckless Williams College Student Journalist Smears the Beloved Dr. Drew

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - I woke up this morning to discover that a lame Williams College journalist, Samuel Wolf  '21, had smeared me this morning in a bizarre story about an ex-Williams College philosophy professor who has been busted for banging his students back in the early 1990s.

The primary aim of the article was to tell a creepy backstory regarding Joe Biden. Biden was planning to attend a 2020 campaign fundraiser hosted by a lawyer who changed his name after having an affair with a student while he was professor at Williams College. David Sanford, formerly named David Weisbord, and his wife were listed as the hosts of a Biden fundraiser in Bronxville, New York.

According to press reports, Sanford - then David Weisbord - was an associate professor of philosophy at Williams College from 1989 to 1991. A unnamed former student said she had a months long sexual relationship with Sanford as Law & Crime reported in May. Sanford told Law & Crime that he changed his name for "private, family reasons" unrelated to the complaint from the former student. 

The woman in question has gone public and refers to him as an "unscrupulous predator." The irony of this complaint is that Sanford is now a prominent #MeToo activist who is making money going after colleges and universities. 

My name popped up, gratuitously, as a far-fetched example of the how women were treated callously back in 1989. Wolf cited a letter to the editor from April 25, 1989 which went after me for my comments on a radio talk show I did with the honored and courageous John Berger '89 on the topic of abortion. The full text of the letter is below. You should be able to read it better if you click on the image. 

I remember the American Inspiration radio show with great pleasure. John and I worked hard on it every week and included taped comedy bits, political observations, and critiques of the campus left. 

This particular show was a Morton Downey Jr. style broadcast which discussed the pro-life perspective, which was a topic that most at Williams College students and professors were loathe to discuss. In the letter to the editor, the authors suggest, without any quotes or other evidence, that I made what would appear to be a ridiculous statement to the effect "every time a woman enters into a sexual relationship with a man it is willingly." 

Since I was one of the few political scientists in the nation interested in the topic of child abuse and neglect and the sex abuse of children, it seems implausible that I ever said anything to that effect. Even if I did, it would be a bizarre stretch to suggest that I was unaware at the time of the existence of either rape or date rape which, of course, are all rape anyways. 

I don't remember much of what I said on the radio that evening. At best, I might have said something to the effect that women can control whether or not they get pregnant and that there are better ways to practice birth control that aborting your baby. The letter to the editor writers appear twist that sentiment in to the bizarre suggestion that I was unaware of the reality of rape. In all fairness to the letter writers, they appear much more angry at my on-the-air personality than anything I had to say about either abortion or consent in sexual relationships. 

Nevertheless, the feckless Samuel Wolf uses this 30 year-old letter to the editor as a piece of evidence designed to characterize the Williams College culture in which the administration and the Board of Trustees was perfectly okay with male professors banging their undergraduate students. As Wolf writes: 

The College did not explicitly prohibit student-faculty sexual relations at the time, and only officially amended the Faculty Handbook to prohibit such relationships in all cases in spring 2018. Nevertheless, during Sanford’s time at the College, three professors were fired for sexual misconduct with students, and faculty misconduct was a source of campus discussion. A Record article published in 1988 drew attention to male professors at colleges nationwide who coerced female students into sex (“Women suffer peer harassment,” Nov. 15, 1988). A letter to the editor in 1989 critiqued one professor for implying that every sexual encounter between a woman and a man is consensual (“Drew’s behavior on radio show inappropriate,” April 25, 1989).

The actual text of the letter to the editor does not support Wolf's bizarre insinuation that I approved of faculty members banging undergraduates or that my radio performance was some how sexually inappropriate. Logically, my view at the time was most likely that professors (who were overwhelmingly Democrats) should not be having sex with their students because this might cause even more abortions.

I suspect that Wolf's one sided smear - I was never contacted for a comment - is a sign of desperation among Democrats seeking to get rid of Donald Trump and hide information on their own hypocrisy. As far as I can tell, Wolf is a New Yorker who is well connected with Democrat party officials. He has worked this summer as an intern for U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Washington) and last summer as an intern in the office of the president for the leftist Brennan Center for Justice.

In a larger sense, however, this article is an attempt to harm the interests of white male students on campus by smearing me, one of the few conservative, Republican, white male professors who ever taught at the school. It is an effort to smear one of the folks who resisted affirmative action and then paid a steep personal and profession price for following his convictions, convictions which have not changed 30 years later.

Accountability for Thee, But Not for Me: Williams Record Admonishes Williams College Council

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - In the Williams Record today, we can find a nifty opinion piece where the unnamed authors ignore the vicious, bigoted abuse of white students on the College Council, while demanding new standards for elected student leaders that the Williams Record would never live up to itself. How charmingly New England...

1. Transparency

For example, there is now a demand for greater accountability from the CC, particularly a call to stop the abuse of power we saw last semester when student representatives took the cowardly approach of discriminating against a Jewish student organization, Williams Initiative for Israel (WIFI), by failing to reveal their vote records. This way student representatives managed to bring negative national/international attention to their decision in a manner which shielded them from appropriate individual consequences.

Pro Tip: The Williams Record should also also list its editorial board members and how they vote on each collective opinion. The current practice of saying that an editorial opinion was the product of a majority of the board members is a subterfuge designed to give each member of the board the opportunity to plausibly deny they supported any particular editorial position. 

2. Diversity and Equality

The major news from last semester was not the process of approving funding for Black Previews. It was the outright, hateful, bigot tirade that two CARE Now black activist students directed again white male students on the College Council at the April 9, 2019 meeting. Watch the video (the shouting begins at 45:00).

The verbal attack on the young white men was so intense that it brought some of them to tears. This display of emotion only emboldened the verbally abusive students. Seyi Olaose '21 used these tears to further the white student's humiliation.

Seyi Olaose: This is white liberal s***.

Isaiah Blake: This is the s***, the tears…

Seyi Olaose: Because nobody wants to talk. Because you had a lot of questions. You had a lot of questions. And I’ve had classes with you. I know what kind of d***heads you are. I’ve had political science with you. It’s s*** that opens up all a yo white moderate f***ing liberal bullshit. I know the type of person you are. So what do you want to say?

The Williams Record conveniently forgets its responsibility to preserve a healthy learning environment for white male students on campus, students who should have never been verbally abused in this manner.

Pro Tip: The Williams Record should start printing up anonymous comments from white students who wish to complain about the way their are being mistreated by members of the administration, faculty and student body. Failing to protect white male students is clearly racism by any definition. 

3. Communication

The Williams Record insists The CC site should be updated more frequently to reflect weekly developments. Meanwhile, the paper only reports once a week and censors comments from those it disagrees with including outside political activists.

Pro Tip: The Williams Record should permit its opponents to register their objections to their news articles. This way full communication might be restored...especially for ex-faculty and ex-students who have been harmed by the leftwing bias of the campus.

4. FinCom Reform

The Record wants the student body to elect the members of the committee that approves requests for funding. I assume this is because the FinCom is dominated by white guys. The Record probably thinks fiscally responsible, white men would be less likely to make those decisions if they were subject to direct election. 

Pro Tip: Likewise, the Williams Record should open up the deliberations of its editorial board. In fact, the members of the board should be directly elected by the students. The editorial board should be expected to behave in a manner more consistent with its own seemingly Maoist ideology. 

5. Acknowledging Mistakes and Revising Policy

The Williams Record asks the CC to correct some of its "mistakes" while ignoring the most glaring, alarming mistakes which caught national attention. There is no suggestion that the CC should properly and accurately record its minutes, enlist a Sargent-at-Arms to police their meetings, or follow its own bylaws for the achievement of a quorum. The CC meetings I watched last semester were poorly led, poorly policed, and conducted with little attention to the CC's own, written rules and regulations. This is an affront to anyone with a sincere interest in democratic governance. It also opens up members of the CC to public ridicule for their fecklessness and inexperience with obvious political norms. 

Pro Tip: The Williams Record should follow its own procedures and immediately do everything in its power to make the campus more hospitable for white male students, Republicans, Jews, and conservatives. This means appointing conservative columnists, developing positive stories about the white race and its cultural achievements, protecting pro-Israel students from physical threats and verbal abuse, and providing opportunities for conservative students, faculty and alumni to add their opinions and recommendations in a fair and balanced manner within each article. 

The most significant question on campus is whether or not the Williams Record has the guts needed to apply the standards it expects of the CC to itself. Does it, in the end, do the right thing or not?

Children of the Corn: Williams Record Applauds Climate Strike with Participation of Elementary School Kids

More nonsense from the Williams Record today. Apparently, the Williams College students who organized the climate strike last Friday did so with a lot more participation from the youngest of school kids that I had originally expected. In a move that undoubtedly caught the attention of woke pedophiles, the so called climate strike attracted students from Greylock Elementary School, Mount Greylock Regional School and The Buxton School. 

Elsewhere, critics of similar events have called attention to them as a form of child abuse which threatens the children's health. The unproven and tenuous Climate change fears have caused anxiety in children as young as 10 who seriously believe the world is about to end. The problem is so widespread the American Psychological Association now calls it: eco anxiety. Fortunately, any child concerned about the future of the planet can quickly check the facts and learned that this is just the latest in a series of lies told about the future from leftist activists whose real intent is to frighten little children to gain political power. 

As you may know, an organization called Fridays For Future, founded by tiny Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, is mobilizing young people for a second climate strike on September 27, 2019,

Greta Thunberg looks like she is 12. In reality, she is a mentally ill kid who has suffered from depression and eating disorders for years. She also have a developmental disorder called Asperger’s. Patience with Asperger's display a similar brand of occasional mutism, balanced out with compulsive behavior and a taste for righteous indignation. In real life, Thunberg is a 16 year old who has apparently missed out on puberty.

In full Aspoerger's glory, Thunberg delivered a weird speech on climate change to the United Nations General Assembly on Monday. She lambasted world leaders for failing to take action on a matter which has paper thin scientific support. “How dare you,” she said. “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words." 

For good reason, Fox News host Laura Ingraham likened Thunberg to the children from the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Children of the Corn.” Thunberg sees her neurological diagnosis as an advantage, even a superpower. “I have Asperger’s, I’m on the autism spectrum, so I don’t really care about social codes that way,” she said.

Climate change fearmongering is inciting anxiety in children as young as 10 who fear the end of the world is near. The problem is so widespread the American Psychological Association has coined a term for it: eco anxiety.

Unfortunately, the Williams Record has apparently signed on to support the creation of a new generation of robot children mindlessly repeating the same leftist nonsense which has been routinely and consistently debunked before. What a mess. As I've said elsewhere, I'm quite confident that, on balance, Williams College creates more mental illness than it cures.
